everyone lies ... 11aug2003

there's danger in the world today .. it's always been true
and if you're being honest they'll come looking for you
you try to practice honor you're in for a surprise
the truth can only come out when it wears a disguise

it's hard to get a bearing from promising and swearing
it does no good to look in their eyes
don'tcha know that everyone lies

and how did all this happen ... if you ain't got a clue
just listen to the TV and what they're telling you
they want you all to buy 'til you're in debt to your soul
and if you do not follow then you're "out of control"

it's hard to get a bearing from promising and swearing
and facts that everybody denies
can't you see we're drowning in lies

so now to get along you've got to smile and shut up
but that won't last too long 'cause soon it won't be enough
and if you're not contented with their shiny new toys
be careful what you're saying when you start making noise

and if no one is caring enough to stop the swearing
and do just what their wording implies
nothing's left when everyone lies
